“ベンダーロックインとは、企業が特定の業者の手法に深く依存してしまった状態を指します。その結果、システム改修や維持管理が他の業者に依頼できない、または、依頼した場合でも費用が途方もなく高額となる、あるいは、新たな業者が参入することが難しくなってしまう状況が生まれます。遡ること数十年前、企業が全ての業務システムを特定の業者に頼んでしまった結果、システムの分散化、すなわちオープン化がされるまでに長い年月を要したという例が数多く見受けられます。この主な原因としては、主にメインフレーム導入の際に起こりました。”
