S/MIMEとは

「S/MIME」とは「Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions」の略で、電子メールのセキュリティを高めるための規格として、IETF RFC 3850と2634で定められています。公開鍵暗号を使ったメッセージの暗号化や証明書の作成が行え、これによりメールの秘密保持が可能となります。また、認証手続き、否認の防止、メッセージの完全性確保といった各種機能が保証されます。このセキュリティ機能を実現するために、IETF RFC 2822規格に基づくMIME（Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions）規格という、さまざまな書式構造を扱える規格を利用しています。
