イメージング装置などで活用されるコンパクトな反射型液晶デバイスの一部分を形成する構造。この構造は、シリコン基板とその対向面にある透明基板の間に液晶を配置することで成り立つ。動力供給や像を形成するための画素電極がシリコン基板側に配置されている。透明基板と液晶層を透過した光は、画素電極により反射される。配線が画素電極の下部に設計されているため、開口率が格段に高まる。
