シリコン結晶格子の歪み – これは格子定数の差異によるもので、半導体の電子や正孔の移動度を高める技術である。微細な格子間隔の違いを持つ物質（例えばSiGe）をシリコンに重ねることで、シリコンに対して引張りや圧縮応力が生まれ、この結果として移動度が向上する。この現象を利用したもので、MOSトランジスタのチャネル層シリコン等に適用したものは、歪みシリコントランジスタとして知られている。’
