「被リンク」とは、一つのウェブページが別のウェブサイトからリンクを獲得することを指し、これは「バックリンク」とも称されています。検索エンジンの代表格であるGoogleが、「良質なサイトからの被リンクはそのサイトも良質である」という原則に基づき、ページランク制度を採用して以降、主要な検索エンジンもウェブページの評価指標として被リンクを活用しています。ただし、数年前はその数が重視され、リンク数が多い方が検索結果でのランキングが上がる傾向がありましたが、スパムの増加に対抗して現在ではリンク数よりもその品質が評価の中心となっています。
