広帯域とは、次世代のコンピュータネットワークを形成し、大量のデータを処理するためのサービスを提供することが可能になるビッグデータの概念です。これは、光ファイバやCATV、xDSLといった有線通信技術や、無線LANやIMT-2000などの無線通信技術により実現され、通信速度としては大体500kビット/秒以上を意味します。これに対して、電話回線やISDN回線による数十kビット/秒の通信速度はナローバンドと呼びます。’
