β崩壊という現象から生じる電子、つまりβ粒子の流れについて説明します。この流れは連続的なエネルギーの分布を持っており、物質への透過力という点ではα線より優れていますが、それを防ぐためには薄いアルミニウム板が必要とされます。粒子線と呼ばれるこれらの放射線は、エネルギーのレベルが中程度です。具体的にはα線よりも弱く、γ線よりも強いエネルギーレベルに属します。また、透過力自体は一定の水準にあり、α線よりも高く、γ線よりも低い程度となっています。
