「アドウェア」というのは、ユーザーに無料でサービスを提供する一方で、広告を見せることで利益を得るソフトウェアのことを指します。このアドウェアをインストールすれば、該当のソフトウェアを一切の費用なしで利用できますが、その反面、頻繁に広告を目にすることになります。アドウェアがよく使用される状況としては、有料ソフトウェアの無料試用版を提供する際や、広告収入を目指す分配者が無償でソフトウェアを提供するといったシチュエーションが挙げられます。ただし、中には悪質なマルウェアとして機能するアドウェアも存在しますので、常に警戒が必要です。
