「BGPルートリーク」とは、予期せぬBGPルーティングが隣接するASへ拡散する現象を指す言葉です。BGPは、インターネットを形成する一連のネットワーク、すなわちAS同士を結びつけるプロトコルであり、その性質上、多数のセキュリティ課題を抱えています。BGPルートリークの一例としては、欧州のインターネットトラフィックが中国電信（チャイナテレコム）が管理する地域を経由するようにルーティングが改変された事例などが存在します。BGPルートリークは、設定の誤りからも引き起こされます。
