ハイビジョンテレビ、別名「高精細テレビ」。これは現行のテレビ形式（NTSC方式等）に比べて多数の走査線を持ち、画質を飛躍的に進化させた新世代のテレビ技術の呼び名です。NTSC方式のテレビでは走査線が525本で、画面の縦横比は3対4。一方、ハイビジョンテレビでは、その総走査線数は1125本や1250本に増加し、画面の縦横比は9対16のワイドスクリーン形式を採用しています。
