作業量を定量化した数値を工数と呼びます。工数は「時間×人」の単位で示され、慣習的には時間の単位として秒、分、時、日などが採用されます。また、人の数を示すときは「人月」のような表現も使われます。工数に係数としてチャージを掛けると、それが製品への労働費に転じます。このため、工数の設定は製品の原価を大きく左右します。工数の計算は見積もりや工程設計の段階で行われます。’
