「Wired Equivalent Privacy（WEP）は、その名が示す通り、無線LANのセキュリティレベルを有線LANに匹敵するものにするという目指し、IEEEのWi-Fi規格・802.11bにて定められたプロトコルです。その主幹となるのは共通鍵暗号アルゴリズムであるRC4ですが、例えば暗号化時の「Initialization Vector（IV）」の扱い方といった部分における脆弱性が明らかになり、結果として、今日では「盗聴リスクが高いプロトコル」としては非推奨の立場となっています。」
