“WAAP”とは、“Web Application and API Protection”の略称で、アメリカの有名な研究・アドバイザリー会社、ガートナー社が提唱した、WAF（Web Application Firewall）の高度な進化形を指します。基本的なWAFの機能に加え、DDoS攻撃の防御、Botの管理、API保護といった追加のセキュリティ機能をもつWAAPは、大抵クラウドベースの形で提供されます。セキュリティ分野で知名度の高いImpervaやSucuriといった企業からも、WAAPの機能を有するWAFの提供が行われていることが特筆されます。
