「キャリア指定」とは、総務省が認可した通信回線事業者、すなわちNTTdocomo、KDDI、Softbankのいずれかを広告配信対象と決めることを指していました。これらの業者は、インターネット広告で広く用いられる用語であり、第一種電気通信事業の認可を受けています。しかし、新たな認可を受けた楽天モバイルもこれからは含まれることが決まりました。
