“ある感染リスクを持つ集団（ここでは、感染群と非感染群と呼びます）を追跡し、それぞれの集団における疾病の発生率を比較する研究戦略を取ります。これにより、感染と疾患の発生との相関を分析します。前向きコホート研究（Prospective Cohort Study）では、現在から将来にかけての追跡調査を行います。一方、後向きコホート研究（Retrospective Cohort Study）では、過去の特定時点から始めて現在までの追跡調査を行います。”
