CNG（Cryptography: Next Generation）は、開発者が使えるMicrosoft製の暗号APIフレームワークで、WindowsVistaから登場した、旧来のCryptoAPIの更新版です。主に開発者を対象に、APIを介して暗号関連機能を提供します。それに加え、CNGは前任のCryptoAPIが提供していた機能（対称暗号、非対称暗号、ハッシュ関数、乱数生成等）を引き継ぎつつ、ユーザーモードとカーネルモードの双方での活用が可能という進化を遂げています。’
