生産材（直接材）の商取引には特殊な特徴があり、一旦製造に着手したものや公式の注文を出した場合、一般的な間接材とは違い、キャンセルが容易でないのがその一つです。その理由としては、製造される製品の大部分が汎用性を持たないカスタム製品であるため、特定の顧客向けに生産されることが多いからです。また、大量生産や継続した納入が前提の取引の場合、その生産が終了すると製造元の在庫は他の販売先がなく、引き取りが必要となる場面もあります。
