「チャットボット」は「chat（会話）」と「robot（ロボット）」を組み合わせた言葉で、テキストや音声に対し自動的に返答する仕組みを指します。元々はSNSでの質問返答やECサイトにおける問い合わせ対応などの用途で多用されてきました。人間が入力した文章や話す声から最適な回答を見つけるのが、このチャットボットの主な特色です。現在ではAIや自然言語処理技術を用いて答えを引き出す機械学習型のチャットボットが増えており、一方で事前に想定された質問パターンから返答を導き出すルール型のチャットボットも存在します。
