「Z世代」という言葉は、主にアメリカ、英語圏、そして日本で使われており、1990年代半ばから2000年代に生まれた世代を指すものです。これはアメリカで1960年代から70年代にかけて生まれた人々を「X世代（ジェネレーションＸ）」と呼ぶ風潮が起因しており、その後の世代の名前はアルファベットの順番に沿ってX、Y、Zと進んでいきました。世代の区切りについては国によって異なる解釈があるものの、一般的な見解としては、1980年代から1990年代に生まれた人々を「Y世代（ミレニアル世代）」、1990年代後半から2000年代に生まれた人々を「Z世代（ジェネレーションZ、GenZ）」と呼ぶ形になっています。
