サプライヤーを選別し、商品やサービスの価格やスペックを含む契約条件を定める職務。商品の品質や契約条件などを設定し、最も適切な条件や価格を確保するための取引先の選定や交渉を行う職務。これを一手に引き受ける購買部門や担当者を、時折ソーシング購買と呼ぶこともある。
