米国に存在するNISTとは、通称であり、正式な名称はアメリカ国立標準技術研究所（NationalInstituteofStandardsandTechnology）といいます。NISTは、国が管轄する測定標準研究に努力を注いでおり、各種の計測方法の標準化を実施。それによってイノベーションや同国産業の競争力向上を図る役割を担っています。特にIT業界においては、NISTにより2015年に公表された「NISTSP800-171」と名付けられた国際基準ガイドラインが大きな影響を及ぼしています。’
