平行とは、二つの対象がどれだけ進んでも交点を持たない関係を指します。特に、数学においては、この関係を持つ2つの直線や、平面、または直線と平面の関係を指す場合が多いです。
素材の溶断作業では、板との相対的な位置関係を平行に保つことで精度を確保するケースがあります。土木や建築の業界では、視線が一直線に続く状態を「通りを出す」と表現する一方、溶断や他の加工作業においては「平行を出す」ことが必要となる場合があり、これはより高い精度を求められる作業となります。
