仮想通貨を獲得する方法のひとつであるクリプトマイニング（CryptoMining）は、専用のソフトウェアを使用して、トランザクションに結びつく計算問題を解決することで行われます。これらの計算問題は大量の計算能力を必要とするため、通常はGPUや特殊なマイニング設備が使用されます。一方、コンピューターをマルウェアで感染させて無意識にクリプトマイニングを行わせる行為をクリプトジャッキングと称します。
