「レインボーテーブル攻撃」は、ハッシュから元の情報（平文）を逆算して特定する攻撃手法の一つです。これは、特別な関数を用いてパスワードハッシュを保存したデータベース（「レインボーテーブル」という名称で知られています）と、获得したハッシュを比較し、元のパスワードを発見するためのものです。これに対する防御策の中には、「SALT」と呼ばれるテクノロジーがあり、これはパスワードをハッシュ化する際に利用されます。最近では、コンピュータの計算能力がアップした結果、レインボーテーブル攻撃が採用されるケースは減少傾向にあります。
