エンコード（Encode, Encoding）とは、情報をある種のシンボル（例えばアルファベットや数字）に置き換えて表示する行為を指します。モールス信号が具体的な例であり、これはメッセージを2つの信号に転換して表示します。エンコードとはデータを一つの形から別の形へ変更する過程であり、これはプログラミングのコンパイル、データの転送や圧縮、展開、またファイルの変更など、現代のITテクノロジーの中枢となっています。サイバーセキュリティの分野においては、攻撃者がマルウェアの機能や存在を隠蔽するために複雑なエンコードを用いる「難解化」がよく行われます。Base64はその一例として認識されています。’
