「スラグ」という言葉は、中村機材においては主に「溶接スラグ」を指す概念です。ここで言うスラグとは、溶接面（溶接金属や熱によって影響を受けた部分を含む全て）で生じる非金属の物質のことを示します。溶接作業中に、この溶融スラグが上に浮かばずに溶接金属内に留まってしまった場合、それは「スラグ巻き込み」と呼ばれ、溶接不良の代表的な例となります。
