「SIS」は「Safety Instrumented System」の頭文字を取ったもので、これは産業機械に用いられる安全装置や緊急停止機能を一手に制御するシステムを指します。日本語では、より具体的に「安全計装システム」と呼ばれています。このSISは、センサー、ロジックソルバー、さらには操作部といった要素から構成されています。
