「単一命令複数データ処理」は、一つの命令により複数のデータを同時に操作する手法を指します。具体的に言えば、一つの加算命令が2組のデータ（A1、A2）と（B1、B2）を同時に処理し、それぞれの組の要素同士（A1+B1、A2+B2）を計算するという方法で、こうした処理によりパフォーマンスの強化を図ります。このデータセット（A1、A2）と（B1、B2）はそれぞれレジスタ上に分割配置され、2から8つまでのデータ平行度を持つSIMD方式が実用化されています。
