Stuxnetとは、主に産業界の制御システムを狙った特異なマルウェアで、その作り手は米国のNSAとイスラエルの軍事組織サイバー部隊とされています。このサイバー兵器は、イランの核関連施設を主な攻撃対象として設計され、その功績が明らかとなりました。特筆すべきは、Stuxnetが狙うのはシーメンス製のSCADAシステムや特定メーカーの工業用モーターで、それらが活動する場所は限定的で、その結果、イランの核処理施設だけに影響を及ぼしました。この敏感なマルウェア攻撃により、関連設備は連続して故障し、機能が停止しました。また、Stuxnetは自己増殖するワームの特性を持ち、イランだけでなく他の国々でも感染が確認され、その存在と恐怖が暴露されたのです。
