「PEiD」は、その正式名称を「PEiDentifier」（別名：PackedExecutableiDentifier）といい、それはパッカーを探知したり分析するツールです。それはPE形式の実行ファイルに内包されたパッカーやクリプター、そしてコンパイラーを見つけ出す能力を備えています。そしてそれは、実行ファイルの表面を調べるのに使われます。UPXなどの多種多様なパッカーの探知は、シグネチャに基づいて実施されます。さらには、ファイルの情報を取り出したり二進法のファイルを検閲したりする機能も装備しています。
