コンカレント開発とは、製品の制作期間を縮小し、効率を最大化するために、開発プロセスのすべての段階で複数部門が同時に作業を進める手法を指します。この仕組みでは、開発プロセスの初期段階から重い負担（ローディング）を業務に置き、以前は後工程で対応していた製造部門の業務（調達、生産技術、品質保証）を前倒しすることで、設計部門との緊密な連携を保ちながら開発を推進していきます。
