「コンセプチュアルスキル」とは、別名「概念化能力」と言い換えられ、複雑な状況を概念に落とし込むことで、その本質を理解するスキルのことを示します。これは、各種の出来事や問題に対峙した際に、共通する要点や本質的な問題をすばやく見つけ出し、適切な判断に繋げるための能力を指します。この概念はハーバード大学の経営学者、ロバート・L・カッツ氏が提唱したもので、「カッツモデル」（彼が提唱した階層別スキルモデル）において、上位のポジションではこれが求められ、特にトップマネジメント層ではなくてはならないスキルと定義されています。
