「共通鍵暗号」あるいは「対称鍵暗号」とも称されるCommonKeyCryptographyは、古代から存在する暗号化のアルゴリズムの一つです。利用する際は、メッセージを暗号化し、その後復号するために同じ鍵を用います。そのため、メッセージの送信者と受信者は同じ鍵を持つ必要があり、もし鍵の取り扱いに失敗し情報が外部に露出した場合、暗号が解かれる危険性があります。この問題は「鍵配送問題」と呼ばれ、これを解消するためには対面によるやり取りや別の暗号の活用が必要となります。
